Welcome to our new iPad program!
We now have 10 new iPads available for checkout for 48 hours (no renewals). Checkout is only available for SOU faculty, students, and staff and includes a cover, carrying case, power converter and USB cord. Each iPad is preloaded with several apps (see the list to the right) for you to explore.

In addition to Apple's built in apps, the apps below are included when you check them out of the Hannon Library.
You are also welcome to download your own apps (you will need your own iTunes account), but please be aware that any apps you pay for can only be used on that specific iPad.
For Reading and Notes

Bluefire:
Needed for looking at downloaded library e-books.

ebrary:
Needed for accessing our package of e-books through ebrary.

iBooks:
A general reader for looking at e-books, e.g. books purchased through iTunes.

OverDrive:
Essential app for reading books downloaded from the Ashland Public Library.
Kindle:
Use this app if you want to buy and read books from Amazon.com.

Adobe Reader:
This is the PDF reader from Adobe, and now allows you to highlight and notate your PDF articles.

Instapaper:
Useful for saving and reading HTML articles found online.

Notability:
Great app for annotating PDFs and taking free-hand notes.
For Research

EBSCOhost:
Find articles and other resources in our Ebsco databases.

Nature:
Access our subscription to Nature through an iPad.

PubGet:
Find academic articles freely available on the web.

OECD Factbook:
Provides access to "a global overview of today’s major economic, social and environmental indicators."

Wolfram Alpha:
Performs "dynamic computations based on a vast collection of built-in data, algorithms, and methods."
For Creating

Pages:
This is Apple's word processing app developed for the iPad.

Keynote:
This is Apple's presentation software developed for the iPad.
iPhoto:
This is Apple's photo editing software. You can crop, adjust brigtness and contrast, and add special effects.

Tactilis:
A simple drafting app.

PhotoEditor∞:
An app for manipulating and enhancing photos.
Tools and Productivity

Errands:
A handy app for tracking your homework and other things on your to do list.

Dropbox:
Once you've set up a Dropbox account, you can use this app to share files between the iPad and your other computer(s).

Evernote:
This app helps you save and organize little bits of information. Set up an Evernote account to access it from a variety of devices including your computer.

SecureSafe:
This app helps you to track your passwords.

Mendeley:
This app will help you create and organize citations in the style of your choice.

iBrainstorm:
Chart out your ideas with this handy app.

iTalk:
Need to record a lecture? Try out this app.

RedLaser:
Want to scan a QRCode? This app will do it.

Flashcards+:
Test coming up? This app can help you study.
